RENEE AUSTIN – Six-time Minnesota Music Award winner and WC Handy nominee Reneé Austin calls her mix of country/gospel/soul “roadhouse soul”, and it’s an apt description of the energy and passion she brings to the stage.
Raised in Kingsland, Texas, the multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter rose to national attention in 2003 with her first international release, Sweet Talk which included the spine tingling duet “Pretend We Never Met” with Delbert McClinton. In 2004, Austin appeared in Morgan Freeman’s PBS Special Blues Divas along with Mavis Staples, Odetta, Irma Thomas and others. She has also opened for or shared the stage with such artists as Jonny Lang, Los Lobos, Blues Traveler, The Kentucky Headhunters, Big Head Todd & The Monsters, Keb’ Mo, Vonda Shepard (Ally McBeal), Robert Cray, Tommy Castro and Sonny Landreth. In late summer of 2005 Austin released Right About Love and showed she had blossomed as a vocalist, writer, and co-producer. One standout tune is “Mouth of the Delta,” which she co-wrote with David Grissom, musical director for the Dixie Chicks. Sadly, just two short weeks following the release of Right About Love, Austin’s career was cut short just as her star was rising. Tragedy struck when a routine medical procedure robbed Austin of her voice. Yet, after years of struggle, there is a happy ending to this story; Austin’s voice has miraculously returned! Says the artist, “I never thought I would sing again. I had no hope. I had resigned myself to the fact that it was over. But now I have a chance to do the thing I love to do most and that is write and perform my music.”
Reneé is very excited to perform the songs from Dancin’ With Mr. Blue, Sweet Talk, Right About Love and new music she has written in her absence from the stage. So faithful fans, and soon to be new fans, get ready to experience high-energy music delivered with heart and soul… the only way Reneé knows how.
