The Have Nots
To celebrate the 20 years that have passed since the band first took to the stage and the anniversary of Paul Gray’s birthday. DaVo, has reformed Des Moines’ very own Punk Rock disaster The Have Nots for at least one night. The idea is to celebrate an important person in the lives of those involved in the band and the local scene. At the heart of it, come out and listen to the music of Paul.
The Have Nots was an off and on project of our talent buyer DaVo that took years to see the stage and quickly faded into the success of Slipknot. As DaVo puts it, “Paul’s side project, aka Slipknot, was taking all his energy and we weren’t creating anything new. It just made sense to step out of the way in 97.” The band first hit the stage in 1996 with the line up of DaVo on vocals, Paul Gray(Slipknot) on Guitar, Joey Jordison(Slipknot, Muderdolls,etc…) on Guitar, Brian DuBay on Bass and Greg Welts(Mad Parade, Organized Crime, Slipknot, Rumble Seat Riot). Additional members would fill in as the line up would change a number of time.
The Have Nots shows often ranged from highly explosive southern California inspired Punk Rock to a stumbling drunk chaos driven disaster. You just never knew what the out come would be. Often it depended on the line up and other times it depended on the amount of Car Bombs, Rum and cokes or Guinness had been consumed that night.
After a lot of prodding from those around him and the desire to do something to remember his long lost friend, DaVo decided to reform for at least one show or maybe two. Between death, sickness, lost of contact and personal issue, he decided to go with a completely different line up. The current line up includes long time veterans of the Punk and Metal scene Rob Ogg(Guitar), Darren Stout(Drums) and Jordon(Guitar) with DaVo’s son Quinn on Bass. The set will include all the original songs from the 1996 Demo and a cover.
